Web Design for a Cause: Why We Built the New Hestia Rodney Women’s Refuge Website

Hestia Rodney Women's Refuge

At Harper Digital, we believe that digital marketing and web design are about more than just driving traffic and generating conversions, they are about connecting people and strengthening communities.

That is why we are incredibly proud to announce the launch of the brand-new website for Hestia Rodney Women’s Refuge (hestiawomensrefuge.co.nz).

Our team undertook this project entirely pro bono. Hestia Rodney Women’s Refuge does life-saving work across our North Auckland community: providing 24/7 crisis intervention, safe housing, advocacy, and support for wāhine and tamariki impacted by family violence. When we saw an opportunity to use our skills to support their mission, we didn’t hesitate.

More Than Just a Website: Building a Lifeline

Designing a website for a refuge requires a deeply thoughtful approach. It needs to be a seamless, compassionate, and highly secure portal. The new site was built with confidentiality at its core, featuring clean navigation to help users find crisis resources instantly, clear educational materials, and vital security features like a rapid “Leave Site Quickly” button to protect women seeking help in volatile situations.

We are especially proud of the new “resources” section on the site which provides crucial information about what is abuse, and how to get help if you are in an unsafe situation.

How You Can Support Hestia Rodney This July

As a non-profit organisation, Hestia Rodney relies heavily on the generosity of our community. While financial donations are always critical, they are also actively looking for businesses willing to donate specialised services. Whether you are in trade, logistics, professional services, or supply, your skills can help lower their overhead costs so more resources go directly to families in need.

If you are looking for an immediate way to get involved, July is the perfect time.

Hestia Rodney is launching their “Paint it Purple” initiative across the region. Throughout the month of July, local schools, businesses, whānau, and community groups are encouraged to go purple to raise awareness and support for victims of family violence. Purple represents dignity, courage, and hope.

Here is how you can join in:

  • Businesses: Decorate your storefront windows in purple or allow staff to volunteer community hours.

  • Schools: Host a purple mufti day with a gold coin donation.

  • Individuals: Wear purple, share their mission online, and start open conversations about safety in our community.

When our community turns purple, it sends a clear, powerful message to those suffering in silence: We see you, we believe you, and you are not alone.

We encourage all our clients, partners, and friends to visit the new website at hestiawomensrefuge.co.nz, learn more about their invaluable work, and find out how you can lend your support today.
